It’s A Marathon, Not A Sprint

Posted By on April 21, 2011

I’ve lost 13 pounds in 16 weeks on Weight Watchers. I’m quite very proud of that, especially since I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with the scale. But the program is working, I’m making better food choices and I’m working out more (well, pre-new job. Although, new job does require me to commute, which means more walking and more stairs than back when I drove to work, but I really need to get back to the gym.)

I’m not sure how noticeable the weight loss is on me to others. I don’t really get any comments. But I notice it. I notice my pants are looser. And I notice that my shirts fit better and aren’t as snug. I notice that things fit and some things are starting to be too loose. This is a good problem to have. I’m not really complaining.

On Wednesday night I was meeting some of my old co-workers downtown for dinner. Since they were driving in from outside the city, I had some time to kill before meeting them. I figured I would take advantage of this time and do some shopping downtown.

I was looking for some new pants. All 5 of the work pants I have now are loose and I have the saggy ass. And they are just too baggy, to the point, I think, where I look frumpy. And I figured it was time to get some new pants.

I was excited to try on pants in a lower size. But, seeing as the pants I’m currently wearing are close to 4 years old, I wasn’t sure how the sizing had changed. I assumed with vanity sizing, I’d definitely be in a lower size.

I was wrong.

Now I know a size on a pair of pants shouldn’t upset me. Who cares what size I wear? The whole thing is that I am losing weight and getting healthy! Yay me!

But it was really depressing to go try on a pair of pants, have them fit and……… have them be the same size as the baggy pants I currently own. *sad face*

But! This means the capri pants and other things I have bought within the last year or so in that size, that were just too tight, should fit. And I can wear them and take the tags off. You know, if it is ever not winter here in Chicago. (Dear wool coat, hat and gloves, I am tired of wearing you.)

(Before photo take at the beginning of January for Biggest Blogging Loser. After photo taken today, 4/21/11. Wearing same pants and similar tank.)

And I’m not done. I’m not even halfway to my goal. This journey isn’t over. A smaller pant size is in my future. Guaranteed.

Congrats, that’s so awesome! I know how hard losing weight can be, especially if you’re like me and after two weeks don’t understand why it ALL ISN’T GONE YET. I need to go re-join WW.

But great job, lady. Keep it up!

Damn, girl!! Those pictures make it totally apparent and you CAN tell you’re losing weight!!! I’;m right there with you (down 14 pounds since late Jan/early Feb.) and I love the feeling of being able to strut around in jeans that were previously inappropriately tight. Of course, no one else seems to notice. So my sashaying is just for me. 🙂 Anywho, I’m way proud of you. Keep it up, doll!

  5. Sarah says:

Delurking to say well done you! The weight loss is really noticeable in that second picture. You’re inspiring me to go back and lose some of the weight I’ve put back on after losing 60lbs last year – umm yeah, managed to put back 50lbs of it 🙁

So yeah, you’re my inspiration 🙂

You look awesome! I second Sarah – there is a totally noticeable difference in the second picture.

And the pants and the sizes…ugh. This is SUCH a huge pet peeve of mine. I honestly think they change it up season-to-season depending on how the last season sold (anything to bump sales) and then you get into how the things at Old Navy are gigantic, but the things at J Crew are always extra teensy no matter what number is on the tag and it’s like CAN WE JUST USE INCHES LIKE THE MENFOLK DO?

  7. Jess says:

Great work! and yes, you can see a difference, keep it up.

  8. Kate says:

OMG, look at those photos! You look fantastic! And yes, you can definitely tell. You look so tall and lean in the second pic.

And re the pants sizes: I would not sweat it even one teeny bit. Sizing is SO inconsistent that the number on the tag truly doesn’t matter!

  17. sizzle says:

Sizes are bullshit. Seriously. Don’t let that dampen your enthusiasm and pride over feeling good in your body. That’s the best litmus! I think there is a noticeable difference. Celebrate that you are liking your body more and being in it. That’s a great thing! Go you!

  18. Holly says:

You look great! Keep it up! It’s definitely a marathon — with an obstacle course of mindf*cks in the middle — but you are doing fabulous. Good luck on the journey!

Good job! And yeah, what Sizzle said.

I’m still stuck at 14 pounds, been here for almost a month…but I keep working out and hope to keep making progress. At least I feel healthier than I did in January — and it sounds like you do, too. Happy shopping.

  20. Diane says:

Fantastic progress! I can definitely see a big difference. Don’t even get me STARTED on pants sizes. I’m with A’Dell on this one … just give me inches and an inseam! I am not too proud to wear my actual waist size if it means I can reliably buy a pair of pants without having to try them on. Because, seriously? If I was at Gap last week and bought a pair of Curvy whatevers in a size 10, I should be able to walk in there THIS WEEK and pick up any other Curvy whatevers in a size 10 AND HAVE THEM FIT THE SAME WAY. But no. I have, at times, put on a pair of 10s and had them be tight and then a pair of 8s in the same style and had them be just right. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?

Okay, enough ranting. You look awesome!

  40. Hilary says:

OMG! What a dramatic loss! You look great! Don’t fret over clothing sizes. First of all, they all vary by brand / designer. Unlike shoe sizes where an eight is always an eight, clothing size tends to change over the years as the majority of body type changes….I have been the same size for forever, and I have every size imaginable in my closet….
