A Small Treat

Posted By on March 2, 2010

Apparently one of my old teachers from Junior High has joined Facebook and created a group for our school. He also has decided to scan the contents of the yearbooks from the years he was a teacher.

And because I’m generous, I figured I would share the photo of me from 8th grade. It’s a little small, but I think you can take in the greatness that is the BANGS and the GLASSES THAT ATE MY FACE, ZOMG!!

I wish I had a scanner. And I wish I had old photos of myself to share. Because this is actually one of the good ones. And this photo? Deserves to be in all color. Why?

  1. I’m wearing a gold chain necklace that I probably got at the dollar store.
  2. Those BIG glasses? ARE BLUE!
  3. That outfit, whoo boy do I remember that outfit. It was a two-piece thing, pants and a top. It was a dark blue, almost navy, and the things on the front of the top were gold. And these pants? THEY WERE HAMMER PANTS! And they had SUSPENDERS! Oh man, I loved that outfit.
  4. THE BANGS! In my head, I pictured them bigger. I think I did a better job with my bangs a few weeks ago.
  5. My God, the yearbook photos from this year are hilarious! SO. MUCH. BIG. HAIR.

And now I have to make a special trip to my Mom’s to find some other photos and go buy a scanner! Because people, there was a MULLET YEAR! Complete with Sophia Petrillo glasses.

If only I were kidding.

In other news, in a wave of guilt for not attending to my cats’ every need, I bought them some toys at Target over the weekend. Specifically, I bought them these cubes:

They sat untouched until today! Until I moved them to the carpeted room, figuring they might want to not sit on the cold hardwoods!

Simba clearly wasn’t happy I caught him utilizing his new toy.

I can’t believe you trapped your cats in cubes like that. What a cute capturing system…

Last night I went to a diner in the more, let’s say, “rural” part of the area. Let me say, the big bang look was still alive and well there, and how.

That picture is all kinds of amazing. It’s so funny to look back at outfits we used to love back in the day. I had all of these awesome co-ordinated legging/oversized sweatshirt outfits w/puffy glitter paint. The icing on the top of the cake were that I wore them with huge matching slouch socks. I was a fashion icon!

  3. Schwerer says:

I love looking at those old pics! But I am not tagged in them and cannot figure out how to tag myself… although I am not entirely sure that I want to!

    But, you look fantastic!

  4. Libby says:

I have no pictures from junior high in my house. And I thank god every day for that. My haircut? Let’s just say it was bad.

  5. Alice says:

oh i had SO MANY awesome “favorite” outfits, although doubtless to the regret of my hypothetical future children, my mom was a TOTAL HARDASS about what we could wear and i didn’t get to wear anything very trendy / name brand OR use any product in my hair. and this was in new jersey. a tragedy.

i did, however, ALSO have blue glasses (replaced the next year with frames that were “raspberry sorbet” colored. those were totally my faves).

  6. Those glasses look like something you’d see in an American Apparel ad right now. SUPER HIPSTER KRISTABELLA!

I still wear suspenders whenever I can find the excuse. Which is harder than you’d think.

I had Hammer pants, too, that I sewed myself! In olive green. I also had this ridiculous bowler hat. With curly hair, glasses and braces? FUG.

  10. Rhi says:

I had very similar glasses in MAUVE. Seriously. I was like 12 going on 60.

  11. Jennie says:

so that’s how those year books got uploaded! i keep meaning to scan old pics, but who has the time? Hooray for retired teachers that can’t let go!

  12. Angella says:

I had THE EXACT SAME GLASSES.

Oh, man. those years were tragic. (SHOW US MORE!!)

I totally rocked a mullet for most of my elementary existence. And oh, the photographic evidence. I like to imagine someone has a box with all the greatest mullet pictures in the universe inside, and the label on the outside says: “For a good time, open this box.”

Did you see that hammer pants are back in style now? Only they’re calling them “harem pants.”

  15. Moplo says:

OMG – Hysterical. LOVE the picture and have a few of my own that were similar. My favorite item of clothing were my WHITE go-go boots. I was the BOMB!

  16. Fairy Godmother says:

I remember those glasses! And the bangs! You were so cute. But I can top that. When I was in the 6th grade I had white glasses with rhinestones in them. I’m sure Mahnee remembers them. The boys used to call me white owl. How the heck do I remember that?!! Oh man I’m getting old.

Oh Kristin. Oh Kristin. At least you don’t appear to have a perm? A mistake I made several times. WHAT WERE OUR MOTHERS THINKING?

    I LOVE the picture.

Love it….I keep on waiting for big hair and mall bangs to come back, because I so can rat and flip like it is no one’s business. I was voted the best big haired bitch in my sorority in college. Doesn’t seem to be happening…..Maybe one day I’ll rock old lady hair. I’m a little older than you, (10 years, maybe not “a little” but that’s what I’m going with) and so I have a ton of pics of me in Flashdance stuff…..freaky.

  21. alimartell says:

you don’t need a scanner. you just need to take pictures of your pictures with your camera. that’s what I do!

NOW BRING ON THE PICTURES. i need to see!

Not cool! So not cool. How could old teacher do that? I would be pissed! But that’s the problem with Facebook, we hold very little control over things, very little.
