Shoes, Shoes, Shoes! How Do You Like ‘Em?

Posted By on June 22, 2009

Internet, I have a question for y’all. (Can you tell I was watching Kathy Griffin visit Paula Deen before I wrote this?)

I bought these shoes a few weeks ago at Target.

41GCRBO0+jL._AA260_

I was looking for some black sandals/flats and I thought “Hmmm, these are different. I’m going to get them. Because I always get the same damn thing. And different doesn’t always mean bad.”

But then I brought them home and I couldn’t figure out if I really did like them. So I’m doing what any normal person would do, I’m polling the internet.

I even have additional exhibits.

Exhibit A

shoes2

(Yes that is the string still holding these shoes together. I’m serious when I say I’m not sure if I should take them back or not.) (Also, I need to clean the mirror.)

Exhibit B

shoes4

Exhibit C

shoes3

These are pants I would probably wear them with quite often since they are too short for heels. I was also thinking I could wear them with capris, maybe? Or shorts? Or a dress?

I DON’T KNOW! I need your help, smart, fashionable people of the World Wide Web! What is the verdict on these shoes? Be honest, please. You won’t hurt my feelings. Well, you might hurt them a little bit, but I’ll just keep the crying on the inside.

But really, I’d rather take them back if the internet says so, then have them sitting in the closet gathering dust. I could do a lot with $20. That could buy a lot of cheap wine and Swedish Fish.

So bring your opinions, I know you have plenty, and leave them in the comments!

I really like them in the first two pictures and I was going to tell you to keep them, but in the last picture, I won’t lie, they give me the weirds. It’s like there’s nothing on your feet!

  2. Chibi Jeebs says:

Honestly? Not my favourite. I’d vote for Swedish fish and wine… Sorry! 🙁
.-= Chibi Jeebs´s last blog ..When you CAN’T have your cake and eat it, too =-.

  3. I’m not sure. I THINK I like them, but I’m also creeped out about how much FOOT is showing. It’s like they don’t have enough….material or something. It’s almost like you’re barefoot, especially in the last picture. But then I do like that they’re different. Wow, I’m no help.

  4. TUWABVB says:

Well, I don’t think my opinion will matter for much because I own them in THREE colors – so I may come across as biased. That being said, I’ve only worn when with shorts, skirt and dresses – and maybe that’s the difference? They might not look that great with long pants, but I think you’ll love them otherwise. Seriously – I have them in white, pink and gold and I wear them all the time.

  5. Julienne says:

I’m with TUWABVB on this one. I think they would look great with anything but pants!

  6. We All Judge says:

I have some that are similar and I think the reason you’re probably unsure is because the look funny with pants. Totally appropriate with skirts, dresses, and even shorts! Shoes are super cute though!

  7. Scarlet says:

I think they’d be better with the capris or a skirt. Long pants hide what they’re all about, I think.

  8. jcristg says:

I wish I’d polled the internet when I bought them too. In hindsight, there’s just something about them that I don’t like and I’d take mine back if I could.

  9. YellowMutt says:

Well, IMHO, I’m not fan of flip flop type shoes at all…I don’t know how people walk around all day with a toe wedgie! and they hurt after just a little while with that thing between your toes…ug. So, I vote no on both, don’t love the flip flop, don’t love the style…I agree with someone else who said it, there is too much foot showing, I think. might as well be barefoot! haha – no wedgie!

  10. Cindy from Cincinnati says:

I think they are super cute! If they are comfortable, keep them! I think they look great in the photos and I would wear them with shorts and capris.

  11. Deb says:

Not the right shoe with the pants. I agree that with shorts, capris, or a skirt they would look better. With pants, I think you need a strap across the foot. They look too dainty for a slack.

  12. Kate says:

I own the same shoes in silver. they look really cute with skirts and dresses (I’m not a shorts person). I just don’t know if I like them with pants. The one thing is that they hurt your feet if you plan on walking a lot. I’m a flip flop girl so it isn’t the “toe wedgie” that someone else sited as an issue, but the shoe itself gets uncomfortable. It’s your call , but if you want to wear them to work with a dress or a skirt where you may not be walking a ton keep them, if not take them back and buy a good pair of flips.

  13. fifi says:

    I vote cute.

  14. Shannon says:

the picture of just the shoes i decided i needed to see them on thinking they may look different and then huzzah! pictures of you wearing them. but i don’t like them, still. but then again i don’t know if it’s because of the pants, but honestly they do look like you are walking around barefoot and seem uncomfortable, if they aren’t though, keep them!
but i do agree sweedish fish and wine is a better investment than shoes to fill your closest with.

  15. MCW says:

I have these sandals in 2 colors and love them. They look adorable with jeans and skirts and I get compliments all the time! And they are soooooo comfortable!

  16. I like them and I don’t think they look bad with pants. I think they’ll look cuter with pants that aren’t black. Like dark jeans. Also will look really cute with capris and skirts, like everyone else said. But it is all what you’re comfortable with. If you won’t wear them, but you will drink wine and eat Swedish fish, then return, return, return.

  17. Since I have the same sandals in gold I feel obliged to tell you to keep them. They’re cute and comfortable and $20 for summer shoes is a pretty good deal in any case.

  18. Vanessa says:

I think they would look great with capris, skirts or shorts. Maybe not so much with the pants. Cute shoes though.
.-= Vanessa´s last blog ..Take It Away Tuesday =-.

  19. Ree says:

Like them in the first two pics…the last one, not so much. But then, I don’t do pants and sandals. I only do sandals for things above the ankle. 😉
.-= Ree´s last blog ..By the Numbers =-.

  20. Chris says:

I have these SAME sandals in royal blue. String still attached as well as I can’t decide whether to keep them or not. Haven’t worn them yet. Like many commenters above, I don’t do sandals and pants but prefer sandals with shorts or skirts. Perhaps I should try mine with pants?

  21. Jackie says:

I’m going through a trying-to-not-buy-the-same-damn-thing-every-time period too. For me this means less polo shirts and work clothes and more fun summer tops, sandals and skirts/dresses.

For that reason I vote keep up. I know how tough it is to vary from your normal style, but overall it’ll help you to continue to try new looks and in the end I think you’ll like them.

  22. Sarah says:

I’m not a fan of such flat flats. (I can’t be at 5’1.) So there’s that bias. But my bigger issue is with the design. There’s something weird about the way that strappy loop sits on top of the foot.

  23. gorillabuns says:

i’m a huge fan of flip flops and I really like them. But then again, I have no fashion sense.
    .-= gorillabuns´s last blog ..cleansing =-.

  24. Jen says:

I am thinking that with a great pedicure color those would rock with capris/skirts/shorts etc.

  25. Janice says:

I live for shoes, at last count over 75 pairs… not that that makes me an expert or anything… but I would vote no. In my experience if you are iffy about them, you won’t wear them very often. Find a pair you know you like.
    PS. mmmm swedish fish!

  26. Actually, I love these, as I do my (too) many pairs of Target flats.

I’m with TUWABVB – these would be best with a skirt, shorts, or capris. They blend with the long pants too much, in my opinion.

  27. Lori says:

I agree with others about the “not with pants”. I tried on a similar pair and couldn’t get over the “too much foot” showing. It’s like my feet were wearing a thong! And not the flip-flop kind. They definitely weren’t for me, but they do look cute on Liz. She has a tortoise shell pair – Steve Madden, I think.

  28. Holly says:

I concur — not with pants.

I also purchased these shoes, had the same dilemma, and returned them. They just aren’t the most flattering shoes, even though they seem like they’d be cute.

    Cheap Wine, FTW!

  29. Danielle says:

I recently tried these on with a dress…and there was just something I didn’t like about them. I also think that if you’re already unsure about the shoes, you won’t wear them much even if you do keep them…so I vote to return them!

  30. Erin says:

Yes to capris/dresses, no to the long pants! I am wearing similar shoes (i can send you a pic) today and I love them, but not with pants because it looks like I’m barefoot since the pants tend to cover up all the decoration on the top of my foot.

  31. paperdiva says:

they are cute, but they are toe rapers! I can’t wear the between the toe shoes. They kill me. My feet feel like they have been violated.
And didn’t you love Kathy and Paula? They were so cute together. I want Paula to come tuck me in 🙂

  32. Raven says:

I think, to wear them with pants, they need to be in a contrasting color; otherwise, I’d say with shorts, dresses, skirts and capris only.

In the same color, they get oddly lost in the pant and start to look like weird stirrup pants.

  33. Um, yeah… you should really take those back!

  34. Crystal says:

Take them back or try them with something else. I agree with everyone else, they’re a little..weird.. with the pants.
    .-= Crystal´s last blog ..On a Positive Note =-.

  35. Angella says:

I’m thinking they would be awesome with capris or a skirt. They seem to be dwarfed by the pants a little…

But I’m no fashionista, so what do I know?
.-= Angella´s last blog ..How Does Your Garden Grow? =-.

  36. tmc says:

    Sorry K, take ’em back.

  37. Erin says:

I’m also on the “not with pants” boat. I’ve seen gals wearing them with dresses and skirts (and sometimes capris) but not usually with pants.
.-= Erin´s last blog ..Twelve Mile Hurdles =-.

  38. auntie says:

i’m gonna have to vote no. i love me some cute flip flops but there’s something about these that look funny to me. i think someone said above…they give me the weirds.
    .-= auntie´s last blog ..Where’s the Pepto??! =-.

  39. jill watkins says:

I vote keep em- but only with capri’s or shorter!

    jill.watkins@gmail.com

  40. michele says:

yea, i get you on the try to get something new and different. i like the concept but i do agree with others that i don’t care for them with those pants. maybe something shorter. we need more photos in different outfits. but for those pants–i think you need something with more sole thickness. i agree with “elizabeth” on gives me the “weirds.”

  41. lainey says:

I always find that shoes look strange to me when I am wearing them because I am looking down on them. I am not a fan of open toed shoes but I actually think these are pretty cute.

  42. HollyLynne says:

I keep almost buying those sandals at Target. I think they look great with the pants you have them shown with . . . i have a pair of sandals that are cute on the tops and you can’t wear them with wider leg pants since the pants just end up covering the shoes. They’re best with skinnies, or a slight boot cut like you’ve got going on here. Or capris or skirts! I think they’d look great with either. I’m sort of startled that anyone thinks they look weird . . . but I guess I do live in the city of year round sandals! 😀

  43. ali says:

i have those shoes…the Steve Madden version.
and I wear them with skirts. or dresses. I probably wouldn’t wear them with pants.

  44. Just Shireen says:

LOVE them. But I’m also biased b/c I have them. 🙂 I wear them with my black dress pants all the time. Also with capris. I have the brown braided ones and I wear them with jeans almost nonstop.

  45. Linda says:

I really like them. Keep em…

  46. JRM says:

I think there is too much toe freedom on the last picture for my taste. I would fear the toe freedom against Chicago streets.

  47. Melissa says:

    I like em…

I have a similar pair and I’ve found they work better with a bit more wide legged pant. Don’t know why.

But definitely try them with skirts, dresses, shorts, capris.

  48. metalia says:

I have VERY similar pairs in brown and gold, so I am a fan.

  50. Michelle says:

I agree with the others who said YES to the shoes but no to the shoes with the pants. The shoes are super cute but pair them with something that shows more leg.
